Research and Academic Affairs Council Meeting Notes

Research and Academic Affairs Notes

Monday, January 15, 2007

RAAC Agenda:

 I.  General Address – Chancellor Robert Potts

1.  Dr. Potts has two projects he would like to complete by the end of  spring semester.

a.  modest changes to the Handbook, and
b.  resolve any legal issues regarding contracts not agreeable to university counsel

2.  A Capital Campaign Plan is underway with an optimistic goal of $100 million dollars.  Dr. Potts' hope is that at least one-half of our goal will have been met through a silent campaign prior to announcing the campaign publicly at our Centennial Celebration in 2009.

3.  The university will continue to follow the internal budget processes established using UPC.  UPC is scheduled to meet March 16 to set parameters and will meet again April 25th to hear summarized requests.  Upon Dr. Potts approval, the budget will then be sent to the Board for approval prior to July 1.

2.  Study of Support to Graduate Assistants & Lab Fees at Comparable Institutions - Dr. John Pratte

Dr. Pratte's study of our Peer Groups & Peer Aspirant Groups offering tuition waivers and comparable stipends to Graduate Assistants shows we are behind the competition.  He recommends waiving tuition for these students to get us back in the game.  Please see Power Point for details)

3.  Summer Entrepreneurial Funding Model-Rick McDaniel

Dr. McDaniel passed out the final draft of the Entrepreneurial Funding Model to be used by colleges to develop innovative summer courses.

4.  Announcements-Forthcoming

5.  Adjournment
