Research and Academic Affairs Council Meeting Notes

Research and Academic Affairs Notes

Monday, April 10, 2006

1.      New Web Page Student Portal and E-mail Campaign Possibilities—Tammy Fowler gave a brief presentation on approaching Students electronically.  Email campaigns have been sent to students through Azorus, Inc. highlighting campus events, such as Preview Day, New Student Orientation, Days at ASU, campus visits, and other opportunities for prospective students.  Campaigns can also be designed to spotlight academic programs.  A campaign focusing on the Department of Biology’s dolphin study was sent to all prospective students earlier in the semester.  The student portal  provides e-mail contact and the ability to post events particular to a student’s interest.  It provides the opportunity to target students and provide the exact information they need.  Admissions will also be tracking student contacts, such as e-mails, visits, mail, telephone calls, and school visits to determine the impact of these efforts.  All student contacts will be entered into the new Banner system.  This fall, after the eleventh class day, we will be able to assess those contacts that resulted in student enrollment.  Admissions can also track events and contacts made by academic areas.  Admissions will need event information to post and student names and/or recruiting activities that should be tracked.  There are also cards available that can be given to students at events, which can be easily coded and tracked by Admissions when they are returned.  Tammy expressed her appreciation for the support provided by the deans,  faculty and staff in the academic departments.

2.      Research and Academic Affairs 2006 Annual Report Highlights—Susan Allen.  The February Board of Trustees report was distributed to RAAC.  Anything appropriate to be included in Board reports should be sent to Evone Roberts.  Board reports will be posted after each Board meeting on the RAA web page.
