Position Title: Assistant/Associate Professor of Rehabilitation                  Counseling

Arkansas State University – Jonesboro seeks a Rehabilitation Counselor Educator.  Assistant/Associate Professor, tenure-track, for its Master of Rehabilitation Counseling (MRC) program.  The MRC program’s mission is to educate professional rehabilitation counselors to meet the needs of our society’s diverse population of individuals with disabilities.  The MRC program is CORE-accredited. 

Qualifications:  The successful candidate should possess an earned doctorate in Rehabilitation Counseling/Education (Ph.D./Rh.D.) or Rehabilitation Psychology (Ph.D.) However, the committee will consider a strong ABD Candidate who is within one year of program completion.  Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) status is required or must be obtained within the first year of employment.  Work experience in the rehabilitation profession as a counselor or psychologist and respective professional licensure are preferred.

 Responsibilities:  Teaching responsibilities include rehabilitation counseling specialty and core counseling courses.  Scholarship responsibilities include research and publication activities having the potential to impact the lives of individuals with disabilities and advance the rehabilitation profession.  Service responsibilities include participating in appropriate ASU department, college, university and rehabilitation profession-specific activities.  There is a potential appointment as MRC program coordinator based on experiences and qualifications.

 The Department of Psychology and Counseling is housed in the College of Education, NCATE accredited.  In addition to the Master of Rehabilitation Counseling degree program, the department offers a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology, Masters in Science Education in school counseling (CACREP accredited), and the Specialist in Education degree with specialty areas in mental health counseling, school psychology (Ed.S.), and college student personnel services (MS). 

Application Process:  Candidates are asked to submit the following documents: letter of interest that addresses teaching philosophy and research agenda: vita; sample manuscripts and/or publications; copies of graduate transcripts; three letters of reference under separate cover; and evidence of teaching effectiveness, if available.  Screening will begin January 25, 2008, and will continue until the position is filled.  Employment contract will begin August 2008. 

Salary:  Competitively based on rank and qualifications per a 9-month contract.  Summer teaching may be available.
