Position Title: Assistant Professor of Special Education

 In support of this commitment, the Department of Educational Leadership, Curriculum, and Special Education invites applications for a tenure-line assistant professor position in Special Education

 The Department of Educational Leadership, Curriculum, and Special Education, located in the Eugene W. Smith Center for Excellence in Education, provides quality, performance-based graduate programs at both the Master’s (M.S.E.) and Specialist (Ed.S.) degree levels for preparation as building-level school administrators (M.S.E.); curriculum specialists (M.S.E.); special education instructional specialists in grades P-4 or 4-12 (M.S.E.) ; emotional disturbance specialists (M.S.E.)  gifted, talented, and creative educational specialists (M.S.E.); central office school administrators (Ed.S.); and community college teachers (Ed.S.).  The faculty seeks personal excellence in teaching, research, and service activities.

Qualifications include: (1) An earned doctorate or A.B.D. status in special education or curriculum and instruction and (2) a commitment to professional development, scholarship, teaching excellence, and innovation.  Preference will be given to candidates with an earned doctorate in special education and online teaching experience. 

 This is a tenure-track position to start fall 2008.  Responsibilities include advising, teaching undergraduate and graduate special education courses, and supervising special education teacher interns.  Preference will be given to candidates with 3 years experience with special education populations, online teaching experience, and/or expertise in mental retardation or emotional disabilities.  Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
