Just a reminder that FERPA (the Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act) prohibits you from posting grades in any manner that reveals the identity of the student. You may not use any form of the student's social security number (student ID number) as an identifier. If you desire to provide grades to your students using an identification code, you should secure written permission from the student to do so. The code must be unique, assigned randomly and not associated with the student ID number in any form. The codes cannot be listed in alphabetical order or in a way as to reveal the confidentiality of the student. Also, remember that grades cannot be given over the telephone, by email, FAX or via any other format in which you cannot make positive identification of the recipient of the information. Parents and guardians seeking information about a student in the absence of the student should be referred to the Registrar's Office.
